What to Expect

Step 1: Attend an orientation and find out more about Habitat’s homeownership program and how to apply.

Step 2: Return your application to Habitat. The Family Selection Committee (FSC) evaluates your family’s financial preparedness for homeownership, including credit history, debt and income

Step 3: FSC volunteers schedule an interview in your home to meet your family and see your living conditions

Step 4: FSC meets to evaluate families. If there are more qualified families than homes available, a drawing may be held.

Step 5: Habitat staff presents your application to city hall (if necessary) and Habitat’s Board of Directors for approval

Then you’ll meet other homeowners at a New Family Orientation and begin your sweat equity—500 hours of volunteer work towards the completion of your home.

At the same time, you’ll, attend Homeowner Education and Leadership Trainings to prepare you to move in to your home and be an active and informed community member.

MOVE IN!

Habitat Homeowner at Home

I liken Habitat to a blossoming tree. The fruit is endless. The roots are what sustain us. The roots are the support systems that go on as far as you can imagine. With this support, the possibilities are endless.”
Marvis McCladdie, Habitat Homeowner
