2009 Earth Day Build-A-Thon
The Earth Day Build-A-Thon is Habitat for Humanity East Bay's celebration of green building. We build green to take better care of our environment, our partner families, and our volunteers. Building green makes our program economically and ecologically sustainable, so that we can continue to serve families in our community. Building green also enables low-income families to enjoy the health and economic benefits of a green home and to make positive environemntal changes in their community.
Our Build-A-Thon is an accelerated build. While it would typically take several months to completely frame 20 homes, we will aim to do just that in only four days! To accomplish such a tremendous feat requires the participation of hundreds of community supporters. The homes we will build will continue to transform a former auto salvage yard in East Oakland into a healthy community for 54 deserving families.
The Earth Day Build-A-Thon is not only our biggest building event of the year, it is also our biggest fundraising event. Participants commit to raising pledges, as they would for a walk-a-thon or bike-a-thon, to help raise the funds needed to purchase the building materials for the homes.
The 2009 Build-A-Thon will be the biggest in our history! Join us to completely frame 20 homes during four monumental days.
