Faith Group Volunteers
"Part of my faith requires putting into action the Christian call to help the needy. In the past eight years, groups from Asbury United Methodist Church have worked on eight different HEB projects (105th Ave Oakland, Alameda, 82nd Ave Oakland, Fremont, Fruitvale Ave Oakland, Crockett, West Oakland and Livermore). I estimate Asbury has brought over 100 different people to work on the projects during this time. Many of those 100-plus people are regular volunteers. Some were youth who have continued to volunteer for Habitat and other groups as adults. We just started working on the Livermore project, and it is nice to be working "at home" for a change." - Bob Hoffman, Asbury United Methodist Church
The Benefits of Volunteering
What better way to experience your faith than to spend a day building with limited-income families in the East Bay? Many faith communities look for a way to expand their mission through serving the community. Volunteering on our site is a guaranteed way that you can improve the lives of families. Because of your hard work a family will have a safe, affordable, decent home. Working on the construction site also provides the opportunity to meet the families you will be helping and bond with other members of your team.
Program Information
We build with volunteers every Wednesday through Saturday throughout the year, scheduled on a first-come basis. We can accommodate groups as large as eight people. We are currently building in Oakland and Alameda, and your group may choose the build location that works best. The workday is 8:30am until 4pm, and we ask for a full-day commitment. No construction skills or tools are required. Habitat will provide skilled construction staff to train the volunteers and supervise construction. All tools, safety equipment and building materials will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 16. Volunteers under 18 must be supervised and must have their parents must fill out a Minor Waiver Form.
